5. Designer Maker User Exhibition at the Design Museum

Designer Maker

Date: Ongoing
Time: 10 am – 5 pm
Venue: Design Museum, Kensington High St

The Design Museum’s permanent exhibition, Designer Maker User, offers a comprehensive look at the development of modern design through the lenses of the designer, manufacturer and user. This exhibition covers various design disciplines — from architecture and engineering to, fashion and digital design. The ‘Designer’ segment is based on the phrase by the Italian architect Ernesto Rogers: from the spoon to the city. It explores how a designer’s thought process informs projects at every scale – from the smallest to the largest. The ‘Maker’ section covers the history of manufacturing, from Thonet bentwood cafe chairs and Model T Ford cars to robotic arms, mass customisation and 3D printing. ‘User’ display explores how design shapes communication, featuring iconic tech like the Walkman and iPhone alongside classic tools like the typewriter.

This exhibition is a must-visit for anyone interested in the evolution of design and its impact on everyday life.
